LG Uplus deploys Alcatel-Lucent's IP/MPLS technology
Dec 12, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) --
Alcatel-Lucent SA has announced that it has transformed the network of LG Uplus Corp., enabling the service provider to increase broadband speeds and capacity in response to exploding demand for internet access, IPTV services, voice-over-IP and other high-bandwidth services in their homes.
LG Uplus has deployed Alcatel-Lucent's Internet Protocol/Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) technology in some of the country's major cities.
By deploying Alcatel-Lucent's IP service routers, LG Uplus will be able to offer its customers faster, more reliable Internet access, video and voice services while growing revenues with the introduction of new services. This is the first deployment of Alcatel-Lucent's service routers in Korea using its powerful FP3 - a 400G processor - and lays the foundation for future speeds of up to 400 gigabit-per-second and even greater capacity.
Rajeev Singh-Molares, President of Alcatel-Lucent Asia Pacific region, said: "In a market as digitally connected as South Korea, high-quality is key for service providers like LG Uplus to attract and retain customers. This project showcases our ability to deliver a market-leading solution that will help this customer rapidly expand its network according to residential and business users' changing data demands for years to come, while enabling the operator to lower its operational costs and energy consumption."
Alcatel-Lucent has provided LG Uplus with its 7750 Service Router (SR) portfolio to deliver more bandwidth and services to more subscribers, more efficiently. At the same time, LG Uplus is able to streamline its current network operations to deliver substantial savings in both capital and operational expenses.
The solution deployed is part of the Alcatel-Lucent High Leverage Network (HLN). Alcatel-Lucent's vision for the HLN is focused on addressing the exploding demand for broadband capacity and services, making it easier for service providers to be able to capitalize on the new demands of an always-on world.
