Jan 07, 2013 (AME Info - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- JELLY BEAN UPDATE SET TO BE RELEASED FOR SAMSUNG GALAXY S II : Samsung Korea has unveiled details of the long-awaited Android Jelly Bean update for the Galaxy S II. The upgrade process will arrive through Samsung Kies and will take at least an hour to complete, the company said. The update will add stock Jelly Bean features such as Google Now and improved home screen, as well as pre-installing Google+, and navigation fluidity thanks to Project Butter, it said.

SAMSUNG LEBANON SAYS GALAXY S4 TO LAUNCH IN MAY : Samsung's Lebanon office has said on its Facebook page the South Korean firm will launch its new flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S4, in May 2013. The current flagship model, Galaxy S III, was launched in May 2012, giving the device a full year before it is replaced as the top-of-the-line smartphone in the company's portfolio. Before that, Galaxy S and Galaxy S II were rolled out in June 2010 and April 2011, respectively.

ETISALAT, DU TO DEACTIVATE UNREGISTERED SIM CARD FROM JAN 17: UAE telecoms operators Etisalat and Du are to begin from January 17 to deactivate the numbers of subscribers who have received SMS to complete their re-registration process but fail to do so, Emirates 24-7 has reported. Last October, the Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA) had extended the deadline for the re-registration of mobile subscribers under the "My Number, My Identity" campaign after Etisalat and Du were unable to provide smooth mechanisms to facilitate, accelerate and stimulate subscribers to update their data.

GCC TO BOOST INVESTMENTS IN TELECOM TECHNOLOGY: Global business consultancy Frost & Sullivan has said stable markets in the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region are to continue to invest more in latest communication technologies in 2013 and data service will grow with rapid pace, Khaleej Times has reported. "Across Mena conflict and social unrest continued to restrict growth... despite the continuing impact of the credit crunch and recession, the wealthier GCC states continued to invest in the latest communications technologies, LTE/4G, Fibre-to-the-Home (FttH) as well as high-speed IP/VPN access for enterprises," said the firm in its yearly analysis.

FACEBOOK ROLLS OUT UPDATED MESSENGER WITH VOICEMAIL, VOIP: Facebook has rolled out updates to its iOS and Android Messenger apps with an added option to record and send voice messages, PC Magazine has reported. Functioning essentially as a voicemail service, the new service will allow for hands-free messaging while driving, a feature that Apple's Siri already provides.
