SKYPE News - Skype 5.5 Beta for Mac OS Features Enhanced User Interface

By Arvind Arora, TMCnet Contributor

Since initially being introduced to the technology industry, Voice over Internet Protocol or ‘VoIP’ technology has been a favorite among users who wish to call their loved ones located globally at lower costs, helping the platform to see a consistent rise in its adoption worldwide.

Skype, a provider of VoIP solutions that allow users to make voice calls to their friends and relatives worldwide through their Internet connected devices at much cheaper rates than traditional long distance phone calls, has announced it will be introducing a number of enhancements to the user interface or ‘UI’ of its Skype 5.5 Beta for the Mac OS platform.

Based in Luxembourg, the company was established back in 2003 and now is a part of Microsoft (News - Alert) Corp., a major company that offers enhanced software services and solutions.

In the new Skype 5.5 Beta for Mac OS XMac, the company has added a redesigned call user interface, as well as number of other improvements.

In earlier versions, the call screen featured a number of buttons that were not that easy to decipher, while the new interface makes it easier for users to make calls through the application in a streamlined manner. Additionally, a new functionality that enables users to accept incoming calls with or without video has also been added to the application. Also, call quality and stabilization have been enhanced to provide Mac users with a better and clearer experience while making or receiving calls through Skype (News - Alert) 5.5 Beta, as they can now also easily mute their microphone, send videos, share their screen, send files and even add more people while using the solution.

In December 2011, Skype announced it would offer free Skype Wi-Fi in participating airports across the U.S. from December 21st through the 27th. As part of the promotion, Skype asked Skype users to tweet with the hashtag #freeskypewifi and tell the company how free Skype Wi-Fi helps to make their travels a little more enjoyable.
