Though the big Skype-related headlines went to news of Skype Mobile’s soon-to-come application for Verizon (News - Alert) smartphones, VodBurner – a new video editing and recording tool for Skype – quietly piqued the interest of more than one techie this week.
VodBurner, officially unveiled in October, bills itself the “first product on the market” to create video podcasts directly from Skype (News - Alert) calls.

Meanwhile, at Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) in Barcelona, which is wrapping up today, Skype and Verizon Wireless announced Skype Mobile for smartphone users with data plans. Available smartphones include BlackBerry Storm 9530, Storm2 9550, Curve 8330, Curve 8530, 8830 World Edition, Tour 9630 smartphones, Motorola (News - Alert) DROID, HTC’s DROID ERIS and Motorola DEVOUR.
“Skype mobile on Verizon Wireless changes the came,” said John Stratton, executive VP and chief marketing officer for Verizon Wireless, which made the announcement at the Mobile World Congress event, in Barcelona. “For Verizon Wireless’ more than 90 million customers, Skype mobile adds great value because we’re effectively giving customers with smartphones and data plans the option to extend their unlimited calling community to hundreds of millions of Skype users around the globe.”
