TMC CEO Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) sat down recently with In Store Solutions's (News - Alert) Chief Technology Officer, Thomas Howe, for an interview. In Store makes and sells Skype-related stuff, such as headsets, handsets and cameras, and as Howe said, "we have two products coming out in the next two months we're very excited about." Howe said much of the reason he joined the company recently was that he was convinced they have the potential to be "groundbreaking products." In fact, "I think it's going to change the face of how a lot of things get done," Howe said. A typical customer for the B2C company, Howe explained, would be Skype (News - Alert) users, or other users of headsets and handsets. "Our customer base is wide," he noted, adding that 70 percent of their sales are outside of the United States. "We sell in 62 countries." In 2010 alone they'll sell half a million products, he said, "collect in local currency and provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for those products." Howe explained about one product they'll be introducing soon, Free Talk Connect, a Skype-enabled PBX (News - Alert), an appliance. It's shipped directly to businesses, "simple to set up and simple to provision," Howe said, saying it's fully Skype-enabled -- "the first fully integrated Skype PBX. It makes a very simple product for the SMB market, which happens to fit in well with who uses Skype today." And their second product, Howe said, is called Crystal. "It's a high-def camera with a set-top box that turns any legacy TV into a Skype for TV endpoint." He said it supports full HD, and there's no other hardware required, and the retail price on that is "looking to be around $300. For that you can make a complete telepresence" setup. In fact, Howe said, "we've had them in-house now, because we're looking at mass production, and they really look nice." David Sims is a contributing editor for TMCnet.
